The Real Reason You’re ‘too busy’ to Exercise

February 01, 20261 min read

If you’re over 50, juggling family, work, hobbies, maybe grandkids…

You’re never going to magically "find" time.

Most of my clients start off saying the same thing:

"I want to work out… I just don’t have time."

But here’s the truth ...

"Time" isn’t the problem.

The real issue is how you've set up your priorities, planning, and routines.

The Myth of Needing an Hour
When people ask me how long our workouts are, I say,

"Only as long they need to be."

See, there's absolutely no physiological reason a workout has to be 60 minutes long.

You need effective, targeted workouts that fit your life and your goals.

If You "Don’t Have Time," Try This Instead:

  • Schedule your workouts like appointments
You wouldn’t skip a doctor’s appointment or a client meeting. Put your workouts in your calendar—and protect them.

  • Cut out the fluff
Far too many people waste time doing ineffective exercises (like anything using pastel weights) and moves based on spot-reduction myths.

Focus on compound exercises that use the most muscle mass (like Squats and Rows).

  • Use "Affordances"
That's a fancy way of saying set up your environment to make it easier for you to stay consistent with positive habits.

Classic examples are setting out your workout outfit the night before, or keeping a fully-loaded "backup" workout bag in the trunk of your car.

The Real Fix? Stop Waiting for "Enough Time."

You don’t need perfect time, perfect workouts, or perfect energy. You need to start.
